Art Talk with Gary Parkins

Join us for an Art Talk event featuring Gary Parkins

Organized by Curator, Brenda LaBier in coordination with Ice Cube Gallery

Parkins’ current works utilize machines that make artworks for site specific locations. He combines collected parts into machines, some contraptions, some complex technical feats, but each with its own independent personality. Each machine produces either drawings or sculptures.

His drawings are orchestrated by skating networks of pens across paper many thousands of times and over many interpretive machine adjustments to produce works that become memories of the machine’s activities.

Parkins’ current sculptures are created by machines that emit transparent glue while it is momentarily fluid. They spin and drape individual strands over tightly pulled string armatures. With time, these many thousands of gossamer filaments, when infused with white light, create shimmering works. Some present elegant illusions, others exhibit geometric principles.

Guerilla Art Grid

The Art Guild invites you to be a part of Guerilla Art Grid. This is an “Open Call” where any artist can show up with their art (16 x 20 and under) and the piece is shown for a one-day exhibit. All work, all disciplines, everything is accepted! There is not a fee but donations are greatly appreciated to benefit Art Guild programs.

Works will be hung in a grid and every work submitted is exhibited. Guerilla Art Grid becomes an aesthetic experience where each individual piece adds to the exhibit as it develops into a life of its own. Everyone gets to participate and the viewer is literally left to be the judge.

The show will be exhibited in the MSCD Art Building, Room 199. Artists should bring their work on Thursday, April 14th from 12 –6, no frames needed! A final review and reception will be on the same day from 6 -7pm, artists must retrieve work at this time. Refreshments will be served.

Send questions to Mscd.Art.guild@gmail.com
